Books To Read

To me, there is nothing like cracking open a book and entering into another world created entirely from the written word. And in that world, these authors have created such lovely and beautiful spaces for your mind to wander, explore, and imagine. From love, to loss, to bringing it all back to one’s beginning, these stories are perfect to escape whatever may being going on right outside your door.

Eligible – Jane Austen fans will rejoice in this modern adaptation on the favorite and classic novel, Pride & Prejudice. Acclaimed author, Curtis Sittenfeld, takes cherished heroine, Elizabeth Bennet, and makes her a magazine writer in New York City. On a visit back home, she has to deal with her cooky mother, and out of control younger sisters Lydia and Kitty. Jane is still the well-manered and shy character she was in the original and Mr. Darcy is still completely swoon-worthy. It’s a light, and familiar read that you’re sure to enjoy.

I’ll Be Gone In The Dark – Journalist, Michelle McNamara, spent her life working, and in her own words- obsessing- over true crime and all things crime-related. She became well-known for her website, TrueCrimeDiary.com, and her work in uncovering the identity of a figure in history she named “the Golden State Killer”. Before her death in 2016, McNamara was working on releasing a novel about her time conducting interviews, piecing through police reports, and participating in online communities who were just as into finding the killer as she was. I’ll Be Gone in the Dark is a look into the the long hours and hard work it took to try and solve a case which she dedicated years of her life, written in her own words. As a true crime lover and the recent news of an apparent suspect, there was no way I wasn’t gonna pick this one up.

Milk And Honey – Poems can be a tricky thing. Some poems are relatable to the masses. Some poems touch a small few. And some, like the poems in Rupi Kaur’s Milk and Honey, set themselves apart from the rest. They resonate with the readers on a cellular level and allow insight into a woman’s experience with violence, abuse, love and loss. Kaur takes us on a journey through the ugly things life can bring, while still finding the good in each situation.

What I Know For sure
– Oprah Winfrey has made a name for herself as one of the leading forces in entertainment. From love, to self-help, to celebrity, Winfrey has covered it on her nationally renowned television show. For years, O Magazine and it’s “What I Know for Sure” column, has been a source of inspiration and self-discovery. Revised, updated and collected together in this small book, What I Know For Sure gives the readers a look into the mind and heart of one the most extraordinary women. Sometimes humorous, sometimes melancholy, it’s always inspirational.

Who Do You Love – In this novel, the reader follows the lives of two individuals from childhood all the way through their adult lives and maps out each movement that essentially determines where they end up. You feel for the characters and the stories that follow them so much so, that you’ll laugh, cry, and maybe even roll your eyes. New York Times Best Selling author, Jennifer Weiner, wrote a heartfelt and thought-provoking story that is a must-read for everyone.
